Studies have indicated that a pregnancy massage performed during pregnancy can help reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and help improve labour outcomes and newborn health.
Swedish Massage Therapy is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it helps address many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy.
Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, shoulder and abdominal muscles. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add that to the extra weight you’re carrying and you may find you’ve got an aching lower back.
Sciatic nerve pain is often commonly experienced by many women in late pregnancy as the uterus rests on muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower leg, causing them to swell and put pressure on nearby nerves. Pregnancy Massage therapy may help address the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles.
Receiving regular massage throughout your pregnancy may help reduce the “stress hormones” as well as increasing your serotonin levels (low levels of serotonin are associated with depression). Test carried out have indicated that changes in your hormone levels can lead to fewer complications during birth
The evidence points strongly to maternal and newborn health benefits when therapeutic massage is incorporated into regular prenatal care.
Among some of the myths and old wives’ tales surrounding prenatal massage is the misguided belief that massage should be avoided during the first trimester. Under the skilled hands of a certified prenatal practitioner, massage during the first trimester is not only safe, but can be especially supportive during the transitional first months.
Please note that as maternity reflexology and pregnancy massage complements the skilled work of the midwife, it is important that you inform your GP/midwife’s before booking a treatment.

Lovely warm relaxing therapy room, lighting just right not too bright, smelt lovely, music was chilled when massage was being done. I went to Tania through recommendation from someone else. Tania is always most welcoming and helps you feel relaxed from start to finish. I have past Tania’s name on to others. Never had a massage before but was very comfortable with Tania’s service.
Would always have a chat whilst being massaged because otherwise I think I could have happily gone to sleep. Price is fair and a loyalty card is nice for the customer Thank you for the service you provided.

An incredible environment. From the moment you enter the cabin you are immediately calmed, relaxed and distanced from everything outside. Being so close to nature in the cabin style room, makes you feel very earthy and spiritual – from the patter of rain to the tweet of birds in spring. The decor is beautiful and feels very exotic. Every element the treatment room from the scent of calming oils and dimmed yet natural lighting really sets you up for a great experience. My treatments were incredible. I used Zenses for massages and reflexology throughout of pregnancies and have found it helped relieve all tensions in my back, hips and legs as I progress through to full term. Couldn’t recommend more highly!

I had Pregnancy Massage to help get rid of shoulder pain and to relax during my pregnancy. The treatment was very relaxing and helped. Tania I would recommend to other’s, she is lovely, warm welcoming and very friendly.
I had the most amazing pregnancy massage with Tania this morning! I’m 39 weeks pregnant and I have a 3.5 year old at home, so I was desperate for a bit of relaxation. Tania’s zen garden is the most wonderful place and the massage itself was heavenly! I left feeling totally physically relaxed and in a really positive head space. I can’t wait to go back, and hopefully take a couple of friends with me. Thank you, Tania!
Was treated for my birthday to a pregnancy massage, at almost 39 weeks pregnant, it was much appreciated. So relaxing and felt wonderful afterwards, thankyou

What to expect with a pregnancy massage
For your first treatment of a pregnancy massage, a full consultation will take place, where your needs and preferences will be taken into consideration, as well as taking a full medical case history. A typical pregnancy massage session takes at least 60 minutes and can go on up to 90 minutes. The mother will be supported with pillows as she lies on her side. She will be draped with a sheet and only the body part that is being worked will be exposed. Or if you prefer, I can use a chair or a “birth” or massage ball for you to sit on. It is best to avoid eating a large meal before the massage or drinking large amounts of liquids.
Most women find it uncomfortable to lie face down right from the start of pregnancy because of their tender, swollen breast, you also cannot lay face down on a traditional massage table once your belly has started to grow. It is inadvisable for you to lay flat on your back either, particularly once you are past mid-pregnancy, because of the weight of your uterus puts too much pressure on the veins that return blood from your legs to your heart. As a trained prenatal therapist, great care is taken with comfort and positioning when offering a pregnancy massage
How will I feel after my pregnancy massage?
Most people feel very relaxed, even light-headed after a pregnancy massage. Some experience freedom from aches or pains. After a short period of feeling slowed down, people often experience heightened awareness, increased energy, and greater creativity. Since waste toxins are released from tissues during a pregnancy massage, aid your lymph system by drinking plenty of water after a treatment. Also, eating lightly will help you get grounded.
